good folks, long time no talk...
was wondering how to properly adjust the wander out of the steering ... the box and in fact the entire car has been totally restored to as new condition by professionals. so all parts and components are literally brand new.. only 100 miles on it so far ... the box has a filler bolt on top as well as another bolt just behind it towards the driver with a lock nut on it.... no leaks anywhere but at higher speeds (well 35-40 mph) thats high for me.. it seems to want to wander a bit and has to be over steered.. shop checked alignment and said it was great but to their credit were at a loss how to adjust the box...

also sometimes while shifting gears it is near impossible not to grind them .ouch!!! any help on proper shifting.. transmission was sent to a place in the midwest and rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder?

i believe the steering is a seven tooth i was told, not a two tooth..but i am no expert ???? last four of the vin are 2332 if that helps.

thx

If the steering column is clamped to the steering box then it's a 2 tooth. That bolt with lock nut you mentioned is an adjustment for the upper bearing to take end play out of the steering shaft. This will not be found on the 7 tooth steering box. DON'T overtighten it or you may crack the bearing outer race. You need to loosen the clamp for the steering box before you tighten the upper bearing. The SERVICE BULLETINS give complete instructions for adjusting the steering box.

If done correctly "by Professionals" no way it should be wandering within 100 miles. Mine was rebuilt 10 years ago but a rank amateur with no experience in Model A's using the best of used parts and it still does nor wander (I did it). If you really need to adjust the box and it does not really need other work here are some instructions.

The model A did not have a syncro ****** so it is best to double clutch. Instruction on the driving and shifting of the A can be found in the owners manual. A copy can be found online at http://www.motormayhem.net/mode-a-ford-refrence-sheet/owners-manual/
