I need some help on a 30 model a truck bed, how do i know if i have an original or reproduction bed, i took the owners word for it when i bought it, but i would like to make sure, what do i look for, my concern is the two plates mounted on the inside of the bed on each side, they look factory because of the way they're contored to the bed and on the outside of the bed, at the same spot, it looks like there was something mounted there like a bracket. also the cut outs on the bottoms of each side, all most right below those plates looks like they were made to go around something, like a cross member ?,Thank you.

Would most likely be easier to post a pic and let people tell you what they think you have. In my 30 years looking at original parts, it is sometimes hard to relay into words what to look for...

What I have noticed about the original verses new (I have only seen to new beds) but the new ones I seen have a wider and flatter bead than my original bed. mine is a little skinner and has a little more arc. It would be hard to notice with only seeing one bed. If you can post some pictures it might help.

I have never seen a bed with those interior brackets. I suspect you have an original bed that someone modified. Looks like someone cut some notches in the lower rail as well.

Doesn't look like the original bed on my 1930 PU. Looks like a Model T bed.

Those PU beds are quite rare as I think they are a one year only item. The 26-27 bed (box in Canada!) had the fender mounts formed into the bed siides & had a different front panel to allow access to the battery.

thank you all for the help, especially Dan i believe you are correct, now i have to sell this one and go on the hunt for a 30 bed, thank you.

Don't forget...THE 28-mid 31 beds were the same until the wide bed came out in mid 1931.

I do not think Ford made any noticable differences in the 28-mid 31 bed.

Did they?

I bought a new box from Brookville a few years back for my september '30 A pickup because it was cheaper to do that than restore my nice original A box. When I received the new one I did a side by side comparison of the two. The only difference that I could tell was my original box had a rivet holding the box front gusset's to the top of the box front panel and the center metal panel on the wood floor had one small rivet on each side of it going thru the metal floor rub strips. And the wood on the new box was clear oak. I am very very happy with my purchase.
