30-31 truck roof

Does anyone have any photos assembling a 30-31 pick-up roof area... not steel top.

I have a cab that someone hacked the top off to install a 32 roof, so I'm starting with nothing above the doors.

Need to just understand what bracing is missing so i can try to find it.
Or if theres a certain book thats better then others to refrence when restoring a 30-31 pick-up.

thanks!
Zach

Yep, I have several photos that I can post. There is a lot that you do not see, such as the wood front and rear header, and the door header. Also not seen is the front corner braces, but you can purchase after market items for these. Les Andrews Mechanics Hand book VOL.2 may be a big help to you.

Good Luck

Thank you very much Doug!
that helps A LOT!

I considered shortening the '32 roof to fit better... but seems I oughta try to do it right!

thanks
Zach

I found a few more of the final fit. The cab is in epoxy primer at this point.

Thanks Doug,
if you get a chance... without going to much trouble.. would you mind taking a measurement for me... from some known point on the side (maybe the crease between the bodylines) up to the top seam at the top of the post.
I'd like to see if mine is affected due to welding the '32 roof on, then cutting it back off...

thanks!
Zach

I'll do my best when I get home tonight. Mindful that my pickup has been completely restored for about 6 years now. I think you will need the measurement for the door opening as well. I can only assume that you no longer have the two side roof panels. You can get repo’s but you may gasp at the cost. Of course all the top wood is available from the after market. The windshield header panel is available but I don’t know about the 30-31 sunvisor, that may be a challenge. The rear roof wood bracket is available but there again, I’m unsure about the front bracket’s availability.

thanks alot doug, I was thinking it was in primer right now...
don't scratch anything up measuring for me...

mine was sliced horizontally all the way around just above the doors then a '32 roof dropped on and tacked where it touched.... leaving about a 1.5" overhang on the back....

Gona have to just make the best of piecing it together little by little...
thanks for the help
Zach

Dug out the cowl today and washed the dust off of it...

I took a few more photos this morning but don’t know if they will help much. The photo that you posted I see your problem. I thought you needed the front to back measurements. So a couple of photos are of my cab front section so you can get an idea of how it looks. The good news is that I found that Walt Bratton sells the Windshield Heard Brackets that you will need to tie the wood parts together at the front post. The photos of the door opening are most likely not what you need, and the one photo with the tape measure above the door rain gutter in measured from the front top molding to the rear top molding (as seen). The one measurement that I tried to get for you is the height of the front door post. It looks like it is 41 inches measured from the top of the cab’s side rail to the top of the post. In one photo you can just see the top of the post in the small gap. The screws that you see are the bottom three are for the door hinge and the top three are for the Windshield Heard Bracket. If your door posts have all these holes I would say all that was removed was the windshield cross brace and you are in luck. I see in your photo that your posts still have the windshield studs for the swing arm nuts. This is good because they may have used the Original windshield which will help determine heigth.

Thank you Doug!
I do have those 3 holes at the top, the bracket is actually there... the vertical section atleast.... so i should be able to make a go of it...

funny how complete this cab looked with the '32 roof before i took it all apart...
now going back together seems like i dont have much to work with....

Your pictures should prove very helpful... the measurement horizontally will help also in getting the cab back ligned up as needed

thanks ALOT!!!
Zach

set it together last night.... just set the '32 roof on so it looked like a whole truck
picking up fenders tonight...
gona take alot to make this roof back to stock....
