My friend Dale has a nice restored 30 TownSedan and is now having trouble operating the clutch so is thinking about an automatic transmission.

At "our" age the chances of completing a big project like that looks daunting.

He would like to find a good running Town Sedan with an automatic trans or a Pinto/Mustang/ Ranger etc 4 banger with automatic trans to replace his existing 30 Town Sedan.

Would purchase or possibly trade up or down. California or close would be nice.

There is somebody in the LA area with a '30-'31 RDPU and hand controls and an automatic transmission. I believe his name is Art Moore but could have it wrong. He usually goes to the Orange County pancake breakfast and I would suggest you and your friend attend. I believe they usually use a Chrysler or GM powerglide transmission. Don Eubanks may make (or sell) the adapter ((626) 337-4004). Remember that the transmission is only the first step. You now need to make a mount for the brake pedal since it will no longer mount on the bell housing. Then there is the rear end and drive shaft (check out Bronco rear ends, they have the correct bolt pattern but still need the adapter rings). It may not be politically correct but if faced with the problem I would consider using a late model 4 cylinder engine and transmission assembly from a ChevyII or the later iron duke. I personally don't like the way the Pinto engine looks under the hood. Be sure you research the archives here and on ahooga.com for this subject. You might also want to post in the forum section.

We have what all the major parts you need to put the automatic trans in your Model A and have done it. Keep in mind to install it , the car must be 12 volts and have hydraulic brakes. For more info, if you want to do it, give me a call.
