'30-'31 Speedo cable end nut

The big end nut that screws on to the 19-34 Speedo gear case split apart. Does anyone know where to get a replacement nut ? The cable is fine. Brattons shows the threaded end to be 7/8-18

Maybe put a small hose clamp around it, to hold it together.

Had to buy a new cable; the new parts appear to be lighter weight than originals. How tight to make the serrated nut to the speedo gear at the drive shaft , hand tight or pliers tight ? Perhaps the latter is why the nut split.

I repaired my split with a large blob of JB weld. It doesn’t look pretty, but it has held together now for about five years.

I would recommend just slightly tighter than hand tight just tight enough that it won't vibrate loose.

Both ends of the cable, I screw in by hand but my hands aren’t as strong as they used to be. So I then use pliers to just nudge to be sure it’s seated all the way and won’t jiggle loose.

The nut that's cracked you could put it in a vise and gently close it up and then run a little tig weld on the outside edge that would be more than strong enough and it would not affect the internal threads on it in any way.
