No, it was meant for the early 144/170 6 cyls. They had trouble when put behind a 200ci. It is very light duty and most likely will not hold up to a 289 or better.

ebruns1 we spoke on the phone in regards to my Craig's list ad the other day and this is indeed a Falcon 6 trans that will not last behind a 289-302 call back if you want to talk again Bruce

Don't waste you time and headaches trying to install that box behind anything but a bicycle, when I was a teenager I blew up several of those behind a six cylinder, they were used in lots of different makes including Rambler and Studebaker, get you a later box , say a 67 up three speed ,there are ford pickup boxes that a top shift can be added for use in a pickup. if so desired. they are heavier and full synchronized.

Update: I finally downloaded the 150 page Timkin seal catalog and was able to find a seal that fit. It was installed and I'm going to get my truck from my buddies garage this weekend. I'm thinking this will be a temporary fix so I can drive it home and move it around my garage while I install the new Kwik-Wire universal wiring harness and new ignition and headlight switches.
I met with member Bruce (see post above) who helped me out on another project with a "historic document" title (for display purposes only, of course!) and he was very kind to explain my options by swapping to a sturdy 3 or 4 speed trans in the future. Just need to measure the bell housing and get the bolt pattern so we can figure out what will bolt up directly to the 289. He mentioned he had some spares laying around so I'm sure one of them will be in my future.
Thanks for everyone's help! You guys are great! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

THREAD REVIVAL WARNIGN

Hey Bruce,

I bought Jim's 50 F1 back in september (ebruns1). Going through some old posts of his as I address the clutch and trans issues with this falcon 3 spd. I recall he mentioned you had a few trans options way back then (I know some of these posts are very old). Wanted to get more information on what you discussed. I have read/reached out to David Kee about a different tailshaft to move the shifter forward. The seal Jim installed didn't hold up either and the truck is spewing fluid from the tailshaft seal. Not sure if I am at the point of putting lipstick on a pig at this point.

I am new so I cannot send PM's at this point. Feel free to reach out.

Looking forward to your reply. Thanks in advance.
