hello, i am in need of a drive and driven speedometer gears for a 3 on the floor ****** from a 49 F1 pickup. the part number on my drive gear is worn so i cant see it, does it mak a diffreance as to what the drive gear part number is? can i stick just any in it if i find one close? or do any of you gentlemen know where i can get a match set?......thanks

Kendall, I'm not familiar with the open drive setup, but yes, the speedo gearing makes a difference, and depends on your differential's ratio. Look in your Chassis Parts Catalogue for the gear that matches your differential ratio.

It makes a difference as to which drive and driven gears you install. They will affect your speedo and MPH readings. Count the teeth on both gears. THat's what you need to match. Each tooth equates to about 7-10 MPH difference. I have some here I've taken from a parts ******. Send me a PM with your gear teeth count on each one and I'll see what I have to match.

bought mine from Joblot in NY. I have a open drive line 41 3/4 ton and have experimented with gear ratio's I have a 9" so I can get a higher gear, currently running 3.25 and with 205 70R 16 tires and use a 18 tooth driven gear, it is about 5-7 mph off speedometer says 55 I am doing 62
