Hi, I am new here and need your help to identify this ****** that I recently purchased. It's a 3 speed manual with Borg Warner R10 overdrive.
The seller says it comes from a 55 T-bird, but I am not sure, so I need the help of the experts here.

Thanks for your help ;)

Thanks for the link Jeff, I already saw this post and pictures before. The pictures posted look very similar to my ****** (AF7006) and OD references are the same (R 10F 1A), but I can't find other information regarding the "BW 259".
Sounds that this combo was used only for T-bird 55 with 292ci???

Unless the shift levers have been changed since removal from the car, it is not T-Bird. Bird shift levers point '"up" because the Bird has a floor shift. John

the 55 t-bird ****** case is stamped AF7006-B the overdrive was R 10F-1B
This was a BW 259 ******...side cover has 9 bolts and is rectangular in shape.three side cover corners are rounded, the lower front corner is square....the overdrive housing is 18" long, the input shaft has 10 spines and a diameter of 1"....the output shaft has 16 spines and a diameter of 1.175"..some passenger cars 1952-1956 have similar ******`s....this info is from the restoration manual by Gil Baumgartner of CTCI

Thanks for the information. Since my first post, I opened the transmission and after teeth count and consulting the Ford parts catalog, I confirm that this is a 55 T-Bird 3 speed OD ****** (1" 10 splines input shaft with 17 teeth main drive gear, 40x80x18mm input shaft bearing, 24-22-17-14 cluster gear and 28 teeth low-reverse sliding gear).
The shift levers have indeed been changed.

If this is the ****** that you are going to use, you need a governor and a solenoid because these are broken in the photo. Alos if it was a 55 T-bird it was 6V and 56 T-bird was 12V.

Yes, I already found a NOS governor (Bendix) and solenoid (RBM). This transmission was used on 55 T-Bird only, not 56.
I am going to rebuild it (as the low reverse sliding gear and cluster gear need to be replaced) so I will also change the bearings, rollers, bushing and oil seals. Any particular tricky part for this job?

Another question. This transmission came without speedometer cable.
I found that reproductions are available, with cable and core, and nylon driven gear separately. I have no idea how the driven gear is attached to the cable.
According to the Ford parts catalog, no clip is necessary and the gear seems to be just pluged into the cable. Note that I do not need to use the 90 degrees adaptor used on 55-56 T-Bird as I intend to use this transmission on a project car, so I just need to know if a standard cable for a 54 or 55 OD transmission will fit and how the driven gear is attached to the cable.Thanks.
