I have a 52 merc with 3 speed OD transmission, has any one put the shifter on the floor? does some one sell a floor shifter for this transmission? Thanks Lou.

I hope it fits. Most floor shift kits are for non-overdrive transmissions only. The overdrive set up gets in the way of the shifter assembly. I have a '51 Ford with overdrive, and a floorshift kit for a regular transmission wouldn't fit without a lot of modification. Good luck.

If you have a problem, get back to me, as I have a floorshift conversion made especially for overdrive transmissions. I used it to make a pattern for the proper mounting bracket and ancillary parts that clear the overdrive components.

Lou,

I've got a bunch of medical and dental appointments over the next couple of weeks, so it may take me a couple of days, but I'll get back to you. I have bought several shifter mechanisms off of eBay over the last few years for a lot less than that thing cost. I have a NOS in the box Fenton shifter for an overdrive transmission that I can make patterns from. Once you get the correct brackets and mounts, just about any shifter mechanism will work, since they are all the same. If you can get a chunk of 1/8" steel plate and can cut and bend, you should be able to get this done.

Here are some pictures I took of my NOS Fenton overdrive shifter and a generic shifter for non-OD transmissions. You will see that the Fenton mounts differently with the actual shifter assembly mounted higher to clear the overdrive solenoid. I think it mounts pretty high because the instructions say you may have to build a sheet metal cover in order for it to fit. The first two are of the Fenton and the last two are of the generic one. Also, notice the label on the generic shifter.

Lou, I will be sending you a PM with copies of the original Fenton installation instructions that are self-explanatory. If you want to proceed, I can make a tracing of the main mounting bracket. I believe a modified version of this bracket could be made to accommodate a Hurst shifter mechanism. It looks to me that the aforementioned sheet metal cover will probably be required.

It looks like I can't post an image to a PM. Here are the Fenton overdrive transmission installation instructions :

I thought I finally had them all right side up; I give up.

Flipped images has pissed me off too! Found I can use good old Paint to rotate them. Win10 only rotates the way you view them, not the actual file itself, when using their Photo app. Crikey!

Thanks Tubman,This gives me several mounting options, I do not think a tracing is needed. I just need to remove the trans or find one to borrow so I can make a actual bracket. Thanks Lou.
