29Closed Cab Pick up door check straps

When I got the truck there were no interior kick panels, and now I want to install the door straps. The door end bracket screws into two nice threaded holes, but where dose the other end of the strap fasten too??? Is there a bracket I am missing, or a block of wood behind the kick panel? I was going to make a bracket from angle iron and fasten one end to the lower hinge bracket, but figured I would ask first, thanks.

I have a 29 open cab PU and the check strap is held on the cab side with a bracket that is mounted on the out side of the kick panel. I screws into the trailing edge of where the kick panel attaches. I will take a picture if you are intrested.

I have spare tires on both sides of my truck and they sure make it
hard to get into truck..They look nice but doors do not open very far.
I am thinking of attaching something to tires where door hits to
prevent door paint damage in area....joe

According to the JS, 28-30 Closed Cabs had two different lengths of door check straps:

6 - 1/8" for side spare
7 - 1/2" for without side spare

Closed Cab straps attached with footman loops, Open Cab straps were different and attached with end plates.

Ed,

This is what your looking for. There is an " S " shaped piece of tin, 2 holes
bolt to the lower hinge on the inside, on the other end of the S, is 1 hole
that bolts to the lower fire wall ON the " A " pillar. There are 2 more holes
near the 2 hinge holes that holds the strap bracket. I'm having issues with
the computer...so no photo. If you need a photo, say-so, and I will see what
I can do.

Clear as mud, Dudley

Dudley, I think if I use a heave gauge piece of steel angle iron it will hold op. I kind of understand what you mean by the S shape bracket. I will look again tomorrow to see if there is a hole in the cowl post. Thanks again

Ed,

Disregard the word" firewall ", please insert "cowl cheek". I should read what I
type! That/those ( L & R ) parts are only 2.5" long. I hope I haven't confused
too many. Dudley

Hello Ed Saniewski,
Here is a picture showing the bracket inside of the hinge post for the check strap.

If you want to send me an email at neilwilson2@comcast.net, then I will look to see if I have a pair of these to sell.

YES, I wondered what that crazy shaped part was for. I would never have figured that one out. Thanks Dudley for the description and Neil for the picture. Now if I could just find those hinge parts.
