292 Road Draft Tube

I'm in the process of gathering the parts for a PCV system for the freshly overhauled 292 Y-block in my newly restored 1955 Ford F-250 stakebed.
Must I remove the road draft tube to eliminate any further oil dripping after the pcv system is installed? Do I need to block-off the opening in the block with a plate like I've seen on some 312 Y-blocks? Does anyone know where I can purchase that plate? Please advise, thanks.

Before you get any answers we need to see pictures of the truck. ;)

Describe how & where you are thinking of hooking up the PCV valve. The air you'll be removing from the crankcase, where will that be drawn in from, the vented oil filler cap?

You should seal up the road drat tube opening in the block if you are going to go with a PVC system.

Use the gasket of the road draft tube as a template and make your own block off. 1/4 inch aluminum would be ok, you probably can use 3/16

A cover for the road draft tube opening is a normal '55/'57 T-Bird part. #6869
About $6 to $6.50 + shipping, depending on where you get it.
A re-pop part is listed on page 4 of the attached pdf file...
IIRC, an FE engine uses the same style fuel pump as the y-blocks and the fuel pump block-off plates are very close to the same size as the vent cover. Your local parts store may have them in stock.

Thanks. The PCV system I'm working on will be a PCV valve installed in the driver's side valve cover, connected via hose to a vacuum port in the intake manifold. The engine is equipped with a breather on the oil fill tube. I lose alot of oil through the road draft tube. The engine revs are rather high when driving on the road because of the three speed ****** with a granny 1st gear.
