292 engine color

I did a quick search and did not find what I was looking for so here is my question. Sorry if it is an old subject that has been discussed on here, I just did not find it.

I am rebuilding a 292 for a 58 F600. What color should it be? Who is a good source for the accurate color?

Thanks,
Pete

The 292 Y blocks in Ford trucks were black with red valve covers.. This holds true on '58-64 engines.. The earlier 272's were yellow with black valve covers..
The '56 292 Thunderbird Specials in the cars were red ... with a decal on the valve cover that said 'Thunderbird Special'.... The car engines did not have the aluminum 'Bird' valve covers except for the T-Birds... Which was an extra cost item on the Birds.
I currently have two '59 F-100 4x's and 1 '64 F-250... I had a new '58 F-100 in '58 and a '59 F-100 in 1960-63. I actually have had at least one '59 F-100 since 1965...
I have 2 low mileage '56 Ford F-600 V-8 grain trucks up at my daughters farm in Central Montana..

The Y blocks in the Ford cars were red with black valve covers on the T-Bird special engines... My uncle had a '56 4dr sdn with the T-Bird special engine, it had black covers with a decal that said Thunder Bird Special.. It was a 292...

I got a '55 Mercury 292 cid Yblock (1st pic) supposedly had 17K miles in a totaled wreck that the driver's widow stored in a barn until about 2007. It was a pukey yellowish-goldish color with cream colored valve covers. I've seen Merc engines in several colors including bright yellow - I think it might've had to do with where they were built (Dearborn, Windsor, Cleveland, maybe other places?) Below pic is as painted prior to going in my '56 Fairlane. Not an exact match but I didn't want it to be. Actual color is a bit more greenish than the pics depict.

It probably isnt original, but I like the gold. Ford green is a neat color too.

I was experimenting a little on the above engine color.
