29 roadster upholstery question

Hi everyone! I had my upholstery guy to look at my 29 roadster this morning and in the two years since I took out my seat springs I have kind of forgotten exactly how the back of the front seat attaches to the car on the back. If I remember correctly when I took out the upholstery (or what was left of it) the back rest material was attached to the car. Does anyone have any pictures they can send me of the way it attaches? Any help would be great! Thanks!

As far as the fabric attachment goes they were done the same as the '28 Phaeton example below although the shape of the back is a bit different

I don't think the upholstery is tacked to the wood piece around the top of the
body...how would you take the back rest out of the car(I'm sure of it). The wood
(3 pieces) at the top of the body are for the Top to snap to. There should be
5 clips that hold the back rest, springs, to the wood frame,2 at the top, 3 at the
bottom.

Dudley,
I thought the upholstery WAS tacked to the wood around the back. I thought that once the seatback was installed, that was it, it could not be removed without a lot of work. Maybe someone that has a finished 28/29 roadster could comment on the upholstery on the back of the seat.

I took some pictures of an original 28 roadster a couple of years ago. I have one that shows the seatback top. I am pasting the picture in this message. There are some fasteners (looks like 8) showing on the top of the beltrail that I have no idea what they are for. Does anyone know what the fasteners are used to fasten?

Rusty,

Thank you for the photos. My car had those same snaps, without the wood, there
must be 30 holes to fill, that held the top and seat back...

Great photo Rusty! It looks like a late '28 with Blue-grey trim. Yes, the snaps are for a top boot and looks likely it was a Ford accessory boot.

BTW, you can see how much it looks like Dave's Phaeton (except color) as I suggested above.

Marco,

So, the side panel was covered("B" pillar back)and installed, then the back rest over the
top and part of the side panel and tacked to the wood? Proper order?

I assume it was hemmed, what do you call the material that covers the back
(on the wood) and over too the side panel?

*Did all Roadsters come with the snaps for the boot and a boot?*

More or less. See my pics of Dave's seats. They were ready for installation at that stage. The quarters were installed, then the backrest assembly was mounted in place, then the first layer of the flap was tacked to the belt rail, a layer of padding was laid over it, then finally the finish flap was pulled over and tacked in place.

That was my point for selecting the word "accessory". We included which (few) models came standard with boots in Area-9.

My 29 roadster had a wood framework that was kinda grid shaped and had the hooks for the seat back to rest against and secure into. I recently looked for mine but I didn't find it.

maybe it has been changed since I bought mine, but this is NOT what my L-B repro seat looks like, the repro lacks that small flat area where the snaps are. BTW no denying the original was a neat color.

True, LB has never offered it correctly but they DO have the flap that goes rearward over the tack rail. On the LB version the welting that you see between the cushion and the flap is in a straight line from side to side with the ends of the welting drawn straight over the tack rail instead of defining the shape of the cushion.
