29 Roadster Door Clip Installation Questions

One door on my 29 roadster is missing the door guide clip, the rubbers, and it's supporting structure - ie, the sheet metal that holds the clip and it's rubbers in place is missing. Does anyone out there know a source that describes how this area of the door is constructed, so I can repair it?

There is a gap in the door structure (about 2 in) where the slot, door clip and it's rubbers should be. It appears I need to weld in a new support structure in order to install the clip and rubbers to hold them in place.

I have not yet removed the existing clip on the other door to see what it looks like as its not clear to me how to remove it without tearing things up. By looking at the other door, all I see is the clip and it's rubbers installed in a small slot in the door, all tucked behind the sheet metal. How does one replace the existing clip? Do you just pry out the existing clip and rubbers with a screw driver? Or is there a different technique that won't tear things up.

I'll attempted to attach a picture once I figure that out.

Any help or guidance is appreciated as always.

You might want to do a search on this site relative to door bumpers. The repro rubbers are too large are always require trimming. You should also look on Marco's site where he shows original vs. repro rubbers. Admittedly this assembly looks odd and appears like it would never fit together let alone work.

To more directly answer your question, there is a rubber piece on each side of the leveling clip and everything is wedged into a simple U-shaped bracket.

Thanks for guiding me on use of alternate terminology, "door bumpers", to find more info. Didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but apparently I will need to weld on a new piece of sheet metal to the door to hold the clips and "trimmed rubbers" in place in the depression that currently exists as part of the door structure.

The previous owner must have cut out a section of the door frame to get out the old clip/rubbers. Sounds like it will be a real treat to change out the other door's clip (which exists, but looks in poor shape (broken clip and hard rubber).

I am currently working on my 29 phaeton doors and the front doors are the same as a roadster. I can take some pictures of the area if you need some. Let me know if you need some pictures.

Thanks for the offer Rusty, I think I'm ok now. I fabricated some sheet metal to braze in place to replace that which was cut/rotted out.

Change out the other side after prying out the old and grinding down the new rubbers.
