hi - would you be able to tell me how tight the rear wheel hubs are suposed to be on the axle on a 1929 model a 2 door sedan ? when i tighten mine to snug or tighter it locks the wheel up and i can't spin it. is this right ? the only way the rear wheel will spin is if i tighten it up like a front wheel so there is slight play. this dosen't seem right since it is a tapered shaft with a key. please let me know what you think. thanks - john

The nut has to be very tight. Check that the E-brake band is properly installed, with the retracting springs in the outer holes, and on the bands, where the linkage attaches, the flat side must be installed against the carrier. The SERVICE BULLETINS shows a good picture, but I'll see if I can find one to post also.

Here's a picture of the left rear before I took it apart for restoration. I always put a little grease on all moving parts, including the linkage pins.
Also make sure the E-brake lever is fully retracted, so the brake band ends are tight against the stop tab. They are not fully retracted in this picture. Also the brake shoe ends should be beveled.

A shim is a proper fix. If you need one right away, cut one out of a tin can. Don't use aluminum, its too soft.

great advice, thank you ! this is a big help. i will look into the shims as well as making sure the brake pads are properly installed. thanks.....
