I will be selling off a lot of nice parts shortly. along with the parts there is this 29 quail, I know it is a reproduction but it is not like other repro`s that I have seen, it does not have knurling around the base and it is nickel plated. not like the repro`s that have knurling around the base and are chrome plated. does anyone know who made this quail.
thanks John

John, I have one just like it. No knurling. Under the "lid" it says Stanco. Mine's an original.

John, You are talking about the Re-Pop ones made by Greenleaf ? (Wood) in Calif.& they were marked as such.. They had the knurling on them.. The Original Stanco did not have any knurling as shown in Barbs picture.. The Jarvis 28/29 did have a knurling ring on it, but is quite the different piece all together.. The one you show with no name is any ones guess .. It also has the hinge pin coming in from the wrong side to be an original Stanco or Jarvis..

Barb I have an original one to, this one has no marking on it. the hole for the hinge pin was drill all the way through. it is a reproduction but it is the best one I have ever seen.

Back in the 1960s, SHELDON GREENLAND located (to hazy recollection) in Glendale, California was offering / selling reproduction Quails and Moto-Meters. They may have been made in the USA. The things were quite high quality and from time to time show up on the used market. Those are marked GREENLAND in certain places.

On the Greenland the markings are on the underside and bottom half of the cap.

My recollection is that Sheldon Greenland and his wife Agnes bought out the reproduction parts business of Red Grow and expanded it a lot. They ran it for a number of years, then divorced and Agnes got custody of the business. She ran it perhaps 6 years and retired, selling the business to Harold Looney of Vintique.

here is a new twist to my quail. I thought it was nickel plated well guess what, as a lot of you know I worked in the demolition business for many years and I still have some connections in the scrap industry, well today I took the quail down and had it shot to see what it was made out of, it is made out of 304 stainless steel. someone put a lot of work into the making this quail.
