Hey Im planning on removing the 29 steering brackett from the tank and throwing it away( or giving it to Gerard) Then using the 31 bracket and modifiing that to work on my 29 . Does any one know if when i remove the bracket compleatley will there be a big hole in the bottom of the tank and if so can i weld in a new piece of metal to cover the whole. I already have a friend that has taken the 31 brackett and made me a new one out of solid steel so it will fit my car. i just dont want any 29 brackett hanging there. thanks ryan

On the inside of the gas tank was another plate. This was the Steering Column Bracket Support Reinforcement. So if you were to remove the outside bracket, then you will have that support plate rattling around inside the tank UNLESS it to was soldered to the tank bottom...not sure on this but I think that is how Ford put each bracket on was with a support plate on the inside of the tank...I might be wrong on this and maybe Brent can tell us.

I think Pluck is correct about the inside plate. At the very least you would have the holes where you drilled out the rivets and possibly rivets rattling around in the tank. Most people that don't like the looks of the half circle hanging down by the column just saw it off flush so it's not so noticeable.

Especially...ESPECIALLY if it is NOT leaking gas in that specific area!

As Larry says...cut it off and be done with it and then "Let'er Buck"!
