29 Fordor Light Switch

I have my switch pointing down and have high and low beam to the right and park to the right but what is the proper position for the switch at the base of the column? I also am concerned with the switch at the base as it moves when I move the selector. Also why would the horn wire be hot all the time?

Horn wire IS hot all the time, when you press the horn button you're providing the ground path. If memory serves me 6 o'clock is off, 7 o'clock is cowl lights, 5 o'clock is low beam, and 4 o'clock is hi beam. Sw at bottom of the column is NOT supposed to move. Is the bail wire on and tight??

That is where I am at a loss as I have no idea how it all goes together, I do know there is a bump out on the switch and there seems to be a notch on the column. How tight should the bail be?

Tight enough to hold it all together and seated against the collar in the bottom of the steering box.

The two halves of the egg should close together on the bakelight switch plate and hold it - and there is a slight (not quarter) turn to "lock" Then this egg is lined up with the key in the bottom of the steering column and the bail snapped over it to hold it.

There is also a key (protrusion) on the inside of the egg to line up the bakelight switch plate. Everything is engineered to go together a certain way and give you one click left and two clicks right.

Sometimes folks have problems with low-high beam positions - these sometimes are found reversed. This may be incorrectly soldered harness, or inversion of the colors on the light plug/receptacle. I think more likely the former.

The only decent harnesses are made by a company in Rhode Island IIRC. A lot of the harnesses being sold by the parts vendors are made overseas - which explains the quality issues.

Yes. There is a kind of a "lip" formed by the point of the egg and the hole where the wires pass through. The bail should click nicely into that.

And you CAN bend the bail to tighten up. There are at least three sizes of egg (depending on the year of your switch) AND the repops (which are from at least two sources and neither of them identical exactly) And one available aftermarket bail to fit them all.

Light switch positions, I wish it were bigger.
