You never know what will show up at our regular Wednesday night Cruise. I know this is not Model A, but these cars are super rare, and I thought it was very interesting! I was drooling!

Early this summer a Duesenberg turned up at a local small gathering. Turns out the owner just bought it and lives just 30 miles from me. Not even the "BIG BOYS" in the local car collecting ever knew this car was around, and so close to home.

I've never heard a Duesenberg run, but it would be something to hear, or better yet take a ride in one! :)

Talk about sound, there is/was a guy in the Phoenix area that had a '34 Ford roadster with the body shortened and moved back to accommodate a Duesenberg engine. It had four Stromberg 97 carbs and did it sound SMOOTH!!!

Car show at Loctite h/qtrs, rocky hill,ct last sunday there was a 31 chrysler 4 dr long hood phaeton, I believe dual cowl, almost or as big as that duessy. Both are beautiful cars. Sometimes its amazing at what shows up at a cruise or show.

Outstanding ! The folks that brought that Duesenberg out and DROVE it are to be commended !

As for "sound", straight-eights have their own unique exhaust note; very smooth, "Sweet" burble; not "lumpy" like a V-8...

I have two Chrysler straight-eights, '48 & '50 New Yorkers... they are super-smooth and torquey.

Saw a Duesie at a car show years ago at the Atlanta Raceway. The young guy who had just bought it, a strip club operator I think, was very proud of the "belt rail" that he had added to the outside of the body - it was composed of plastic stick on bathroom tiles from Home Depot!

A number of years ago a guy brought out his Duesenberg V-16 to a swap meet to make us all drool. As I walked up towards it, I had no idea the engine was running until I was about five feet away. No kidding, I had to get that close. A bunch of guys were looking at something on top of the engine. A coffee mug was sitting on the engine as it ran. When you looked at the coffee, there were just a few rings of ripples on the surface. Putting a hand on the fender (Which the owner encouraged) you could not feel any vibration. It was really amazing. That was at least 15 years ago, and to this day I'm still thrilled. He wasn't giving rides, everyone was asking. He did rev it up a bunch of times so we could hear that distinct 16 cylinder sound. I can't recall the carb setup.

Someone above noted that Jay Leno does not have a Model A. That's true. But you may find it interesting that he knows quite a bit about them. We had our Phaeton at a local concours show a few years back. He rolls up in his huge "Tank Car," the aluminum bodied mega-speedster with a GM tank engine. Long story short, when he drives into a show, a crowd gathers. There were problems with people disrespecting surrounding cars. Jay came over and spoke with me a while about that (No big deal, really). Anyway, we walked around the Phaeton a couple times and he was rattling off all kinds of Model A details, engine specs, general production numbers, etc. I was impressed. He didn't want to trade, I asked. I, and many other people have had the pleasure of speaking with Jay Leno at Southern California car events over the years. He's a genuine car nut, and if people will forget the celebrity element and just talk with him about cars, he loves it and will talk your ear off! Should have seen his face when I ribbed him hard over running a red light in his freshly restored Packard (About a 1907) on a Holiday Tour in Pasadena/San Marino area. What a jokester.

OK, I'm long winded and off on a tangent. Just wanted to share.

Thanks to Jim Parker for starting this thread! Cool photos.

 No, No on the Duesenburg V-16 [No such aminal] .Might look like a V-16 because its a Straight 8 with "DOUBLE OVER HEAD CAM".Cadillac ,Marmon and i think one other car only had a V-16...:)

That is a nicer model than the "J" I worked on for a couple months about 30 years ago. I actually "had to" drive the car about 10 miles to the shop where I was working on it. They are an absolute joy to drive if you are accustomed to antique cars.

Last car Peerless built was a V 16, one made which still exists. Was meant to go to production in '32.
But I would prefer a Lincoln '29 out of all those big buck cars.

 30 years ago:) You were 16 at the time:confused: lucky you...:D 10 miles ,,hell i would of kept driving and never been found:cool:

I didn't mention that it was only four miles to the shop!:) I was by myself having a great time when I faced the reality that if I had any problems off the direct route it would be tough to talk my way out of it. We had already tripled the shop insurance coverage for the time the car would be there!
