29 coupe seats problem

When I bought my 29 coupe I knew the seats would have to be replaced. Ratty looking, mouse infested, etc. WE took them out, removed all of the cloth and padding and recently set about redoing them.I watched several utube videos and thought I had a handle on the job. Wrong. Hognosed on the burlap, added padding just as in the original, made and installed new covers. and put them in place. They don't look right, don't feel right, there is a gap between the seat and back of about 3 inches with body metal showing.... aaarrrrghhh...
I very much want to find a 29 coupe nearby (Essex VT) so I can see how it should look and maybe figure out where I went wrong.
I saw a great utube video of a fellow showing off his 29 coupe and the seats looked great, but not as helpful as seeing one in the flesh. My rumble seat is perfect, so no worries there.

My 29 sport coupe may be different than yours (I believe all coupes used the same set up in 28/29) but the seat back rest has metal tabs attached on the back wood frame that fit down into slots on the package tray and is fastened to the tabs down on the seat back riser frame. The lower cushion has the wood base that the spring box screws onto but all that just rests on the riser. If yours is set up this way then I would wonder if the spring boxes are correct height. There may be a gap but it shouldn't have much if any gap at all. I'd also wonder if the seat back is set up to fit correctly.

roto describes it pretty well. one is not contingent on the other. both have their place.

minor adjustments may be made with a thin piece of plywood, but that is about it.

your gap is far too large.

I think picture would help with diagnosing the problem.

Does the seat backrest have a wood frame or is it just the springs. Mine came with a wood frame, but there were no clips to attach to the package tray. And the wood frame had a curved or arched top, but the pics I have seen of 29 coupes, the seat back is flat and level.

Mine is flat across the top and has the top horizontal wood piece mounted farther after so that the tabs that attach to it will fit down into the slots on the front of the package tray. Snyder's has made their business from fabricating seat springs. They and several others sell the wood frames.
