29 Closed Cab Pickup Door Lock Problem

Hi Guys,
Any help you can provide would really be appreciated! I'm trying to fix the door lock on my 29 Closed Cab pickup. I've read some responses on the forum to previous questions on locks and in one, someone had said that there's a cam that is attached to the shaft of the locking cylinder. My original lock is broken and the shaft missing so I don't know what the cam looks like. I have not been able to find anything for sale or info on what it looks like. If anyone has, preferably a photo or info so I can make one.
Thanks and have a good one!

If you want to buy a new one I'm 90% sure vintique makes a reproduction latch/lock assembly. And when it comes to reproduction you can't get much better than vintique.

The trucks didn't have locks in the handles or on the drivers door. The lock was below the handle on the passenger side. Same as '26/'27 T's. They are available repop.

Since I don't see a smiley face, I guess you are serious. I think just the opposite is true. A&L makes very good parts as well as other independant suppliers making a few special parts. I try my hardest to steer clear of anything that has Vintique on it.

Try Bert's for good original parts. 1-800-321-1931

What is a "door lock"????

Part A-80055 and 56 is listed as the 82-A "Lock (door) assy. R.H. & L.H." (see picture).

So, the 82-A closed cab has two door lock based on the Ford parts naming conversion.

BTY - There is part A-80057-B for the 79-A panel delivery "Lock (front door safety) and key assembly". The 82-A has the same doors and this safety lock works on either the panel delivery or closed cab.

Yea - most use the term "latch" for what Ford named "lock". Basically, a picture usually resolves terminology problems.

This might be a repeat. I'm a rookie and trying to figure out how to work this.

Thanks Neil,
Your picture is of a door latch.
I’ve read that Locks were an option on commercial vehicles.
The lock is inserted from the outside of the door into a factory mounting hole that is above the door handle. The lock has a cylinder with a square shaft that goes into the safety locking cam of the latch assembly. (missing in upper right hand hole in your photo)

I’ve looked at too many web sites to mention and apparently I have to get my exercise and let my fingers do the walking.
Thanks to all for your help.

I agree with Tom, Vintique leaves a lot to be desired in model A parts. I have seen many that I wouldn't use and a few that will do if necessary. I think they try to cheapen their parts a little to much. I suspect it is to appeal to the most people.

Neil is correct in that Ford called the assembly a lock and it is so listed in Ford parts books. It is never incorrect to refer to parts by the official Ford name even although it may look like a latch to one not familiar with Ford terminology. Neil is the author of many well researched truck articles.

The Vintique lock cylinder has a 3/16" square shaft that fits into the corresponding hole on the original latch assembly in the passenger door.
There are no other parts to install.
A half turn of the key locks and unlocks the original mechanism.

Thanks Tom,
If thats the case it's a good thing that I ordered some new ones.

Thanks again and Have a good one!

I don't really understand what's wrong with vintique? The only parts I'm not to big on are their radiator shells and that's just cuz they look to shiny to me.. Other than that I haven't seen anything "ugly" or bad. I talked to one of the guys higher up in the company (son or grandson of the owner...can't remember name) at pate swap meet this past year. We talked for probably 30-45 minutes and I have nothing bad to say about them.

Would anyone be able to tell me what the Ford Part number is for the RH side lock for the 29 Closed Cab Pickup?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Have a good one,
Gary

For those that need the same info, look at Neil's post above for the numbers!
