29 Closed Cab Pick Up roof

Can anyone help me with this? The roof wood that runs along the back of the cab, how far dose it come out from the sheet metal? The wood kit that came with the truck is notched back 3/8 of an inch. And I looked at the pictures that Marco posted some time back, and it looks like the wood should stick out at least as far as the trim piece that runs up the back of the cab. That way the welting around the top is straight and flush. Has anyone done a roof lately?

The placement of your rear header will be determined by the header pieces over the door as you can see in the photo. The rear of those pieces are cut so the rear header is a tight fit.

To answer your question directly though, the front surface of the rear header is flush, or nearly flush, with the forward surface of the metal piece it attaches to.

This leaves quite an overlap of the wood in relation to the rear sheetmetal surface of the cab.

It seems to me that if the rear of the cab and the wood were flush it would be easier to seal the area by slightly overlapping the welting for the top material for some extra water resistance. The welting would have to wrap around the two vertical trim pieces though.

As done originally, the welting does very little to block moisture at the wood to metal joint. This joint should be sealed with something when the wood is installed.
