Do you have any rubber pads between the frame crossmember and the mounting tab of the radiator? You should. It helps with the hood alignment. There is no "right number" of pads.
You might also have a '29 car on a later '30/'31 frame. There was a change in the detail of the crossmember between the years. There are at least three types of members: 1) the 1928, 2) the 1929 and early 1930 and then 3) the 1930-31.
From what I know about it, the 1928 has the solid front motor mounts where engine bolts direct to these raised pieces.
Then you have the 1929 which does not have the solid motor mounts and has the round holes where the radiator bolts to with the raised radiator mounts.
Then the 1930/31 with the elongated radiator mounts holes and the lowered radiator mounts.
From what I understand, if you get the wrong cross member you may have problems getting your hood to fit the way it should.
