You need to join the 52-59 Ford Social Group.
You will get all the info you need.

Keep it a y block. It will look much cooler. And plus there is a 289 or 302 in just about everything.

I have a '56 Bird with a 302 in it.. It was converted in about 1968 because the Y-block was worn out.. Of course the swap is a lot easier if you use the C-4 trans..
There is not enough room between the frame and the engine on the '55's etc. for the manual fuel pump, an electric fuel pump solves the problem..
For my money, the 289/302/351W makes a good application in the '50 model Ford products..

Go to your local O'Rilleys or whatever, and get Anchor #2525, & 2526 (front engine mounts) and it should fall right in there. The trans mount may need a bit of tweeking. While you're there, get a set of Aerostar front springs # CC850. You'll be glad you did.

Take a look at the pictures posted here, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=37188 This is what you do to the frame pads to use the Mustang mounts,as you scroll down you will see a post I made as an update ANCHOR/DOAN is another American company that has jumped on the "outsourcing bandwagon" before you consider buying them if they have China or India on the box AVOID them the rubber is inferior grade and there are cases of it separating in less than a years time, the links I posted are of a far superior quality.

As a side benefit the many and I mean many, of those that have done it on a 49-59 Ford rave about the improved ride and handling after the swap. Usually the cost is under $65 a pair.
