28 tudor hood question

I finally got the rusted hinge pins out of my hood side panels. What is the best method to remove the rust from inside the hinge assemblies? Should I reassemble the new hood pins before or after painting?

Warren I get plumbers wire brushes for cleainng the inside of copper fittings, cut the wooden or plastic handle off chuck it in a drill and clean away.Reassemble the hood after you clean it and check the clearance between the hinges so they don't rub each other.A little filing may be necessary. if they rub the paint will chip upon opening and closing the hood.After all this is done paint away.Buy the way my ancestors came from Ireland and settled in the Shenandoah valley in the late 1700's
