'28 or '29?

Jack '29 Sport Coupe

Well-known member
My brother-in-law sent me a picture of his dad's coupe to identify. Make and model were easy enough, but I couldn't determine if it was a '28 or a
29. It's a standard coupe with a double row of thin pinstripes on the door. The rest of the car is cut off-----and the car door is open with his
dad blocking the rest of the car. Any ideas as to whether the stripes were on both the '28 and '29 cars? Thanks.

Jack,
Both 28 and 29 coupes had double pinstripes on the doors. If the car is a std coupe, standard coupes were only make from introduction in 1927 to mid 1928. Special coupes were then put into production until mid 1929. Standard coupes when then built until the 1930 model A's were put into production. There are several other ways to determine if thescoupe is a 28 or 29. First, if the car was not altered a lot, a circular raised area around the crank hole in the radiator shell is a 1928, a bell shaped raised areas is a 1929. Also, if the upper side edges of the radiator splash pan don't have a bead like the lower edges do, it is a 28, if it has a bead (raised ridge) it is a 1929. A red steering wheel was used in 1928 or very early 1929 (early 29's were special coupes, not standard coupes, however) and black steering wheels were used in 1929. There are many other subtle differences, but these things are easy to check. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the info. Unfortunately, the picture is in black and white so I can't
tell what color the steering wheel is, and the picture only shows the door and just
enough of the front side to be able to tell that it is a 28/29 and none of the front
shows, so I can't see the crank hole, splash pans, radiator, etc., etc. I do appreciate
all of your effort.

This is a car that was bought new about 80 years ago! The car and my brother-in-law's dad are long gone. Absolutely no way is the serial number and title available at
this juncture.
