28 fordor leatherback steering column support

Can anyone help with pictures or describe how to install the 31 style steering column support in my 28 fordor ?
When I remove the dash cover there is a wood support behind it and the only place I can see to mount the 31 support would be to the top of the fuel tank where its pinched together behind the wood support.
The other issue is my cowl covers the fuel tank on this model which could be a can of worms if I have to remove it.
Thank you

Couple things. Please list where you are as there could be a neighbor that could walk next door and help you out. Second, pictures please.

I just installed the support on my '28 tudor and it slipped nicely right under the tank seam. Admitted, the two holes in the bracket were not even close to the ones that hold the tank to the cowl, but that was handled with a drill making sure to not drill inside the tank seam to let the pixies out.

You may not be able to fit the new bracket until you release the column from the original bracket on the tank, so if it seems it may not fit, try removing the clamp on the tank mounted support, you won't be using that anyway.

No question about it, it is not going to fit. I've got the same model 60 and in the same boat. My tank is leaking at the collumn support and needs repair. I think we have a fabrication job on the horizion.

Those column supports are not available in RHD so I made my own when the original support on the tank started to leak on my '29. I cast them in aluminium and found that the bolt pattern where it bolts up behind the dash is different from the '30 models. The support is also shorter on the '30s. I can only assume things are similar for your LHD cars.

Synchro909 . YES RHD ones are available, We produce them , 29-& 30.s the same however Australian assembled ones may differ from Canadian or other places , certainly used ours on 28-31 models no problem. antiqueford@xtra.co.nz if needed,
Thought you may have visited the mainland on you trip ?

I make them too (for 28/9). It wouldn't take much to make a pattern for the later type too but I don't need one and there is not much demand. I'd say that by far the majority of Model As sold here were sold in 1928 or 9.
I would like to have been able to drop in but the schedule didn't allow it. Nudder time maybe or even catch up in Chandler.

I'd rather not have the tank supporting my column at all.
Besides can't access the top of the tank seam without removing the cowel.
