28 ford pickup bed installation

Its been a while since I last posted. The forum's have been so helpful in figuring out things.

I have the PU bed finished after many hours of TIG welding and fabricating. Trying to figure out the right way to mount it.

My question today is on the brackets that mount to the cab end of the bed to the bed sub rails. There are three rivet holes for them to mount to. They seem to go over the wood beam.

There is a hole in the frame directly in-line with this bracket. I don't have the brackets in hand so I cannot look at them. Does this somehow attach to the frame on the inside?

There are two other holes in the frame that align up with the sub frame. One is at the far outside of the rear spring cross member on each side and the other seems to align with the first bed cross member (from the cab).

I am sure the bed needs to mount to the frame behind the cab. The wood does not go over that far so I am thinking those two brackets that rivet to the bed sub frame side pieces must somehow attach to the frame.

Does not seem like they would do anything otherwise. I am missing those brackets and will order them but want to understand how the front of the bed mounts to the frame.

Maybe some day I can answer someone's question but for now, I seem to be the one asking questions.

Comments appreciated.

I have seen your website and have some of the photos stored on my computer. I can see the brackets I mentioned on the bed but I am still not sure how the front part of the bed secures to the frame.

I stuck the bed on the frame with the oak boards in place today. Where that front bracket is, there is a hole in the frame on both sides directly in line with that bracket. I assume that a bolt goes through the bracket and into the frame.

Going to pick up some parts this Saturday and will pick up those brackets at $43 bucks. I am sure Henry did not wast material so they must do something and its probably related to mounting the front of the bed to the frame.

The bed was cobbled up before so I just have not gone back original before with one. This is not a show car. We paid $110 for it in 68 and believe me, this old truck has been to hell and back.

I am a fabricator so I fabricate and re-machine parts if its possible to keep costs low. The bed had to have the curved bottom sections replaced so I bent and tig welded new ones in. Turned out good and only cost $40 bucks. I had some white oak so I made the wood supports, but just figuring out what bolts to what at this point.

Starting to look like a truck again finally.

Thanks

Take a look online at Mac's website. Or in their catalog. As I recall there was a diagram that showed some of the things your asking about. I know from time to time I was able to use them for information. With the bed I often called Bruce Horkey in Windom MN. And I think I was able to figure it out without too much trouble.
