The external door handle shaft to the door latch is at quite an angle. The door is a reproduction, and the latch is new U.S. made. The pilot hole for the handle was in the door. I opened the hole to the size of the handle. The latch appears to be in the center of the door screw holes. Do anyone have an idea what I have wrong.
Thanks

To get mine to work ,repo doors and locks, I had to put an S bend in the square shaft to get it to line up.seems to work OK, its been in for about 10yrs

Lawrie, I had the same problem but took a different route. It's not just repro parts that don't fit. I took my all original '30 cabriolet apart & putting the right door latch & outside door handle back together in the door I found that the handle shaft was 1/4" out of alignment with the corresponding hole in the latch. Trying to figure out what was needed or could be moved to make it work, I decided that nothing could be moved without screwing up the fresh paint. So I went to a highly technical direction and manufactured a u-joint in the 1/4" square handle shaft that ended up being about 1" long. Only took about a week's work on & off but it works beautifully, and nobody will ever know (except you all).

Ray, you must have more time on your hands than me,
Mind you I just spent 3 hrs making a distributor hold down clamp for the new a engine.

I am going to go with the s bend. Thanks for the help. The latches I bought from Snyders look Identical to an original set I have. Thanks.

Ya gotta give Ray from La Mesa credit with his knowledge and ingunity.
I have a 30 coupe since before high school. I had a terrible time as you are with the handle not working repro to repro. I could only open the door by rolling the window down to operate the outside handle for years. He fixed it, and my agrivation in about 10 minutes!

I didn't know I couldn't do it till I tried, I just accepted the challenge. The reason it took so long is, I tried it first with a junk handle because cutting the shaft on the good original handle was scary. After figuring out how to do it, the second one only took about one day. I like working by myself because my Dad said if you think about it long enough you can usually figure it out. He was an aircraft jig builder by trade at Northrup during WWII taught me well.
