28 Chevy Head

Does anyone have experience with running a 28 Chevy Head on a Model B Engine? I am more interested in efficency than high performance. Thanks, Bob

They are hard to find. Also need to replace vaves & seats. The Olds heads of the same vintage have three exhaust ports, but are harder to find.

The head is mounted with an adapter between head and block, with a gasket on each side. The adapter mounts to the block, and the head mounts to the adapter (different bolt patterns). The bottom of the head is flat, and the combustion chamber is in the adapter/spacer. The intake ports are on one side and exhaust on the other. The look nice, but I want to make sure it is worth the effort, $$, etc.

As you probably know. there is a guy in Ventura, CA that repros the Miller OHV head and it really looks great. I talked with him at length and he dynos them at 140hp. I don't recall the price. Cam choice gets important with this head so plan on changing that also if you get interested.

If the Chevy head has to sit on top of a spacer, what does that do to the compression ratio, or are there special high-crown pistons that are part of the conversion ?

The bottom of the head is flat, and the combustion chamber is in the adapter/spacer. Based on the size of the spacer, compression ratio ranges from 6.1:1 to something like 7.5:1. If you wanted higher compression, the spacer could be milled more.

The chevy heads I've seen are external oiled. I guess if you don't drive much, that would be ok, but it's pretty low tech in my opinion.
