28-31 pick up questions

Most anything now-a-days that you read, you always end up asking questions about things that you thought might be in a book but wasn't. That being the case, what are some things that seem important to you that you would like to see in such a book about the "Model A Pickup? If it can be answered in anyway, lets see if the answer is out there. Otherwise it is going to be "Well, what about this" or "What about that"?... So What about you? What are some of your thoughts. Thanks.

I would like to see comparisons between the 28-29’s and the 30-31’s including some dimensions for legroom etc (in other words is the 30 cab bigger then the 29? Information about Budd cabs, information about the wide bed, when did they start, how do the dimensions differ between the early bed and the wide bed. Most of this information can be found with some research but having it all. In one place would be great.

Much has been made of the similarity of 26-27 Model T coupe/tudor doors and the same door used on the 28-29 Truck cab.

My experience is that the doors are the same, and the hinges are the same, but the "tumble home" (curve of the body) of the Model T differs from the Model A.

Someone could confirm this by carefully measuring the Model T body at three places (low, medium, high) on the hinge side of the doorframe relative to the centerline of the body, and comparing the same dimensions on the Model A truck cab.

Just one of those "wouldn't you like to know" sort of details - and to settle discussion.

I was honored to own a 29/30 Model A pickup that I found in the Boston area.
Its name was "Clementine" and two of my kids learned to drive him.

We knew very little about the vehicle. Another 29/30 came out of a fallen garage near us, so we know there were at least two of them. I would have gladly helped write a book, had I known.

Questions I struggled with:
Headlight were painted 29 lights?
What did the dust shield between the cab and bed look like?
Tools offered??
Shocks?
Map case?
28/29 wheels OK?
Gas tank was '30 neck welded on the '29 tank
I'm sure there were many other features

when GE destroyed RCA, I had to move and sold the car in Medford, NJ to park next to a Locomobile in the new owner's barn. I hope he continued to have a good life. I fondly remember setting up and selling candied apples and chocolate moues at the apple festival in the fall at the Medford grist mill we helped restore. wonderful times!!!
Enjoy

The 29-30 Square body pickups were sold in either 21" (1929) wheels or 19" (1930) wheels - depending on exactly how far into 1930 they were assembled. Square bodies were used until May 1930.

After the change to the 1930 body pattern and quarter turn gas tanks late in 1929 (November?) the square body trucks were MOSTLY fitted with the quarter turn cap. Also the 1930ish steering wheel.

Ford was a great one for "using up superseded parts" - and the trucks were primary dumping ground.

My gear shift lever normally "butler finish" was painted black - when I stripped the paint I found the butler finish was there but with damage to one side.

My headlights were originally the "Type H" lens and smaller bulb sockets. March 26 1929 is my "body date" which is nearly a full two months after the change over to "Twolight" system.

In the "map pocket" I found the original "Drum Tail Light" bracket even though the truck had later been fitted with the Teacup taillight, more modern bracket and Twolight headlights.
