28-29 cowls

I am reassembling the cab on my 29 CCPU. Is there welting or anti squeak material on the sides between where the cowl side panel meets the A pillar? It bolts together so there must be something to keep out the rain. Also dose the gas tank welting only go across the top of the tank under the windshield? What goes between the tank and the cowl along the sides? In the pics. I have looked at I don't see anything in these spaces. Thanks , Ed Saniewski.

Ed,
The welting starts at the very bottom of the cowl and door post below the lower hinge (right above the splash apron) and runs all the way over the gas tank to the same point on the opposite side. A 28/29 CCPU is just like a regular model A in this respect. As far as the seam where the gas tank and the top of the cowl is concerned, I used regular friction tape to insure there is no squeaking caused by two metal surfaces rubbing together. It shouldn't squeak as the 5 clamps are very tight, but I wanted to make sure. The friction tape is thin and wont take up much space. The friction tape can't be seen if you make sure the outer edge is recessed slightly. I used contact cement to hold the friction tape in place before installing the gas tank. BTW, I also used friction tape between the front top of the firewall and the lower flange on the front of the gas tank. Hope this helps.

Ed here's a photo that shows the welting. friction tape works between tank and cowl and firewall.

Thanks Rusty and Dennis, this is exactly what I needed to know. Denis did you add any kind of flexing agent to your paint for the welting? Ed Saniewski

Just to make sure, the welting is installed and then painted with the body. It wont flex once it is installed.

When I painted my 31 Town Sedan , we painted the gas tank welting separately. the paint shop added a flex agent same as they use on the plastic bumpers
