I know the 29 phaeton wasn’t born with these lights,
Came across some and would like to use as signal lights
Think I might be missing things ,have 2 round silver dollar type pieces
Do they go on the inside not sure if 29 use the wood blocks or not.and what is used as washer on the outside if any.
Thx in advance
Daryl.
Hope I’m not ruffling any feathers
Cheers

The 28/29 cowl lights mount THROUGH the cowl panels rather than resting on the outer surface of the cowl panels. They have grommets around the mounting holes that the arms pass through and then mount to the horizontal (front to rear) brace on the inside of the cowl. By doing this, the lights aim straight forward. If the arms are mounted on top of the outer cowl panels, they will both be aimed on an angle toward the center of the car (or to exaggerate…….. toward the radiator cap).

I installed a reproduction set back In the 80s and they came with the braces that fit up to the curve of the cowl. They are stamped to fit the inner skin profile and then dimpled for the mounting of the lamp mounting arms. The lower fuel tank clamps have to be stretched a bit to get it all secured.

I thought about using them for signals but the position so far back limits the ability of other drivers to see them in opposite quartering approaches. I opted for the ones that fit between the bumper bars. They are more visible and blend into the car very well in my opinion. The cowl lights still look good and work well enough for park lights.

The wood blocks are for 30-31 the 28-29 cowl lights do not have any type of washer and are just a bolt that goes through a special plate under the gas tank that attaches to the cowl panel. If you have a 2 bulb headlight they do not make a wiring harness for cowl lights with 2 bulb you have to wire it yourself. You need part number A-13300-BR from snyders to mount them.

These came with the lights
Great info from y’all much appreciated
What are these for?

When you make the hole for the bracket to go through the cowl panel, use a Greenlee chassis punch and paint over the raw metal of the hole. The chassis punch will make a very clean hole and not mess up the surrounding paint. If the rubber grommet was not included, or if it is old and brittle, you can find them online as chassis grommets. I have an extra pair of the brackets for a '28 Briggs Body Fordor.
