272" oil pump drive shaft

I pulled my distributor and the oil pump drive came out of the pump. If I drop the shaft back into the pump from the distributor hole will it self-guide into the pump? If not, what is the process? Also, one end of the shaft is more pointed than the other. Which end goes to the oil pump?

OK, I think it is in. I used a piece of rubber tubing over the drive shaft. When it dropped in and I couldn't turn it with the rubber tube I stuck a welding rod through the tube and held the shaft in place while I pulled the tubing off the shaft.
