Has anyone used the resrictive intake gaskets to prevent the paint being burned off manifold? Do they work? what about blocking the exhaust completely. I hate to ruin another paint job. Or anyother suggestions. this is on 1955 crown vic w/272 4 barrel.

They work, I have them in my 56 Bird 312.. But eventually your intake will start showing discoloration. It may take a year or two. Blocking off entirely will work, never done it but other have done it. If you live in an area which has cold weather your engine will take a bit longer to fully warm up.

If your exhaust system has a heat riser valve you can also remove it or wire it open, assuming you aren't parking the car outside overnight in winter weather then driving it.
When cold, or stuck shut, the valve forces exhaust thru that center passage of the intake manifold. With the valve open or replaced with a spacer, there will be less exhaust going thru that crossover to begin with.
