New to me 26 T, I pulled my inspection plate off to check fir sludge and noticed that the conn rod caps look like they are pretty shiny new aluminum with modern electroplated cotter pins. I was wondering if they were more recently installed. Any idea? There wasnt any sludge in the plate.

It appears to me that someone has recently installed replacement rods that have been painted silver. Definately not aluminum. I hope this helps, Russ Furstnow

I would trim the tails on those cotter pins a bit unless the rods have noticeable play. At least it would look a bit more professional that way. Model Ts have a long history of maintenance as needed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I thought the cotters were s little long but I didnt see any scratches in the troughs so I left as is and replaced the cover.
