26 driveshaft help

The engine is locked up and needs rebuilt. It sat without plugs in for what appears a long time. The body is very solid though. I was able to get another motor for it and I'm ready for the swap. My first problem though came yeasterday when I went to remove the old motor. The motor is loose but I cant get the drive shaft disconnected. Can you give me a heads up on this. Also, does the steering column have to come out.

And one more question, do the serial numbers on the motor and body corespond on a Model T. The reason for the question, if they are supposed to match, I'll try to eventually rebuild and replace the original at some point.

Hope you have removed the four bolts at rear of engine before trying to pull the engine. It will go much easier if you remove the steering column. On a 26-27 you have to **** the engine quite a bit to get the pedals to clear the wirewall. Engine and frame numbers did match originaly. Good luck.

As Jack said, pull the ball cap on the back with the four bolts. The steering column comes out easy. You need to drop the pedals and tip the motor to get it under the body. If you download the service manual, it has the directions in it.

The drive shaft is held in place by the pinion gear which is attached to the rear with a nut. You have to unbolt the pinion bearing housing and radius rods and remove the whole drive shaft assembly as a unit. Or did you mean does the the u-joint just slip out, if so, yes.
