I knew what I wanted re headers on my 32. I bought the cheap "Belond" style center dump headers from Speedway for 149.00 delivered. I then mounted them on the engine and cut them up, as I wanted to make a set of step headers.
I removed and replaced the head pipes from the flanges one at a time to make them
1 1/2" diameter, then inserted them into new 1 5/8" tube.
Now, the funny thing (NOT actually funny), is that the internal passages were horrible:
I'm talking about the transition area where all three pipes come together into the larger center section.
That is, the way these had been assembled from the "factory". Internally, there should have been a 1 3/4" opening, but it was reduced to less than half of that due to the poorly placed and welded in next pipe section.
Had I not cut these pieces apart, I'd have never known.
After a lot of grinding and fitting, I think I have a good set (not great) of headers.
How much good all the work did is unknown, but it made me feel better, anyway.
Another example of crappy workmanship that is essentially hidden from the customer, as there is no physical way to see wht you've got unless you take them apart
