223 six "butt change"

Just a couple pics of a neat project .
The 223s used that load amatic vacuum only distributor and often ( especially after a few mods etc) they just dont function anymore or in some cases at all.
Our fix for this customer was to swap out another ( full mechanical) distributor for the old load a matic vac only unit.
In this case based on being a quality distributor AND using the same rotation etc , we used a cast iron chevy six cylinder unit.
Parts are easy to get and they advance 11-12 degrees mechanically ( just what the 223 needs).
We tore the 223 apart , cut the lower mounting unit off and cut down the chevy to accept the factory 223. The shafts are different sizes but the 223 donor was used on the lower section and the chevy on the upper .
A pertronixs for the chevrolet was installed and WOW , this makes a really nice old school looking modern unit for the 223.........

Thats really great info and I am happy to see other folks playing around with the old 223 mileagemakers, but since this a Ford V8 forum, you really should be posting this stuff in www.fordsix.com where there are a lot of 215 & 223 owners who could benefit from your ideas.
You can find many people in the vintage six forum at www.fordsix.com.

I'm sure not to many people would be impressed with the old load-o-matic, points and condenser in my Y-block, but at least I did convert the load-o-matic in my '55 Courier to a petronix ignitor !!! And believe it or not I even converted it to 12 VOLTS !
Can you imagine that ???
And yes, I wanted to ask the same question Chrisf did about how you fastened the Chevy top part to the old Ford bottom part?
