21 stud timing cover differences?

The 3-hole dizzy-to-cover gasket actually has four holes in it.......possibly the root of the original confusion. DD

I believe that forth hole on the gasket shown was there for mounting a 37 to 41 distributor on the little 60hp 37 to 40 engines.

Terry pulls out the very early 4 bolt timing cover and no one responds??

I'll speak up. Cool pic Terry! Love learning new things on the FordBarn!

And next to it...is that a prototype Zenith V8 carb?? I have a picture somewhere of a pre-production V8 equipped thus.

On the 4 hole gasket...'37-41 type distributors have an extra mount hole. A different combination of 3 was used on 221 and 60 engines, and the 4 hole gasket fits all.

Cool stuff! I'm going to be building a couple 32 V8 engines - they will all have the standard 3 bolt timing cover. The hardest part for me has been to find 32 V8 tall coils . . . still looking for one in rebuildable shape!

Too Cool! Since we are discussing prototypes, a friend sent me these photos of the prototype 34-36 Intake with no fuel pump provision. The carb used vacuum to draw the fuel.
