21 stub head part numbers

Hi Guys,
Just picked up a couple of 21 stud heads, circa 1938, that I plan to put on my '37 motor so that I can replace the pumping heads currently fitted.

The new heads both have part number 77E 6050 cast on them - anybody know what that designates?

Colin:confused:

These are cast iron heads that were introduced during the 37 production year. They replaced the aluminum version, which had a 78- prefix.

77 is the truck head for '37-8, 77E is an English made one which of course was used through WWII on Bren Carriers and trucks and up into the '50's on trucks and Pilots.
78 heads went on passenger car here, and were routinely replaced with 77's because the 78 aluminum usually corroded away.
I think you have the head with the firing order information on it, put there presumably for WWII freshly trained mechanics.

Also both heads fit either side ,there are NO L+R.Thats why they both have the same part #. As far as i know. ken ct.

Bruce,
You are absolitely right about the firing order be cast on the heads as well. In fact, it even looks like there's a diagram spark plug layout too....

Once again, thanks guys.
Colin
