I have a question for the masses and hopefully someone from the host club will see this group and answer. I sent in my registration form about 3 weeks ago and later that day I saw where they had reached the 500 person mark. I have just returned home from a 17 day road trip expecting to find something in the mail either accepted or sorry too late, but haven't seen anything in the mail or email. They are going to open the registration September 1st for a 2nd group of 200 but it will have a different registration form (can't use the 1st form). I don't know whether they held the registrations that came in late or if mine didn't even make it (USPS is really bad to lose mail). Anyone here in the same situation? I sent an email to the address on the application form yesterday but no response yet and is running out.

Thanks

I don't know the answers to all of your questions. But if you're in the first and initial 500, you should have been notified by now via email and evidence of your check being canceled.

My recommendation for the second 200, fill out the form and have it post marked at your Post Office. I think if you put it in the mailbox, that will be too late.

I received a reply, it was in their spam folder and they haven't received my application after 3 weeks. I'll just overnight a new application on Sept 1st.
Thanks to everyone

Hey guys,

Is there any chance there are going to be extra people allowed for this tour? I would love to join, but can't seem to find any information as to whether or not they would allow additional folks to join. Thanks, Steve

Sept 1st they are taking application for 200 additional people. The way USPS has been handling mail I really don't expect mine to get there at all...( sad but true)

Please see attached document, reeprint of an email that I received this morning from Tour Co-Chairman Mike Laurita on this very subject.

Should be a fun trip. I've wanted to do the narrow gauge train ride since we got forced to land there in our Cessna 182 due to icing and thunderstorms. Spent the night at the hotel looking at all the things to do brochures. In the morning the weather cleared about 9am so he headed home via the Grand Canyon.

We did the train on our way back from the non-convention in Albuquerque a couple of years ago. Well worth the trip, except that it's a quick turnaround for lunch in Silverton, and at 10K feet I don't move quite as quickly as I did 50 years ago.

I've ridden the Durango Silverton train numerous times over the years if you're into steam engines and narrow gauge it's a must do!!!

I received an email from Mike and Linda Laurita (see #9 above) at 6:31 pm Pacific tonight that registration is open. FWIW, they comment that FedEx, etc. has no advantage over regular USPS as they won't begin opening for at least a week, to allow all mail postmarked September 1 to get there.

Yep, I also received it. Unfortunately with the history of USPS that is not a lot of reassurance (3 weeks after we mailed our first one they still had not received it, as well as others we mailed the same day but it is what it is...lol I will be going to the Post Office in a little while. I just hope they will postmark it where I can witness it...My son and my grandsons are planning to attend also...I am getting my younger generation involved in the hobby...
Good luck to everyone who wants to attend this fantastic tour.

Terry
