A decade ago when I was on tour with a band there was a Canadian law that if you were bringing goods into Canada to sell you had to pay a tax on each item at the port of entry (before you sold anything at all).
Now I dont remember if this was a deposit type tax where when you would come back into the US you were refunded the money on unsold goods. The rate was pretty high if I remember correctly and we couldn't afford to pay this. We just hid all that we could and hoped were not searched.
This was a well known problem amoung small and medium sized touring bands at the time. The common way to get around this for US bands was to mail a bunch of CDs and t-shirts to a friend or a Cananidan bans that you may be playing with in Canada well before you left, then before returning to the US, mail any un-sold items cack to yourself.
If there is still a simular law that is in place, I dont think there would be many swap meet vendors willing to list each individual small part and pay a tax on it not knowing if they will even sell it.
Again, this was 10 years ago so this could be different or there could be exceptions for swap meet type goods, this is just my first hand experience qith bringing goods into Canada from the US to sell.
