I have a 2004 ford taurus when I first start it, the idle speed goes up and down(500rpm to 2100 rpm). its a v6, 2 valve. Ihave been told that it is a temp sensor, but have a hard time with that. Any help is welcome.
I have a 4.0 v6 sohc 1999 explorer and had a idle problem.Had to give it gas to get it going solid problem. It turned out to be the Idles Air Controll got one from auto zone about $75.00 You maybe about to clean it may fix for while.
Without having the benefit of seeing the car, the first things I would check are 1. make sure the top of the air filter box in correctly assembled w/the tabs secured at the bottom.Kids at the oil change places mess this up all the time.2. look at the small tubes/hoses that run from the valve covers to the air inlet tube to the throttle body. The rubber ends have a tendency to get soft, collaspe & crack w/age & cause a vacuum leak. Ck both ends of these tubes.3.Theres a large rubber elbow that connects at the back of the upper plenum near the throttle body that also gets soft & causes vacuum leaks. If they get bad enough they fall off & cause hugh leaks but that will usually turn on the ck eng light. Christmas is coming so ck these 1st before you spend money on parts that may not fix it.
