2 X 2 using 94's marked 8BA

Just received new 2 x 2 manifold from Speedway. Started to set up with the 8BA-94's I have. Noticed a recessed threaded hole with a small hole into the body of both carbs at a 45 degree angle on the same side where the single mounting hole is. Assuming it's the vacuum supply for the stock 8BA distributor advance? I am using a Mallory E. dist. so don't need it but assuming I can just put a threaded male threaded plug in it? If so what's the thread? Looking at a picture of one on Ebay and it looks like a brass threaded plug with a screw driver slot in that one.

I'd like to know this too. I need a couple. Tony, if you find them but they come in lots of 50 or something, I'll take 5 or 10.

OK tubman, I'll let you know. Any idea on the type / size thread?

The nut that goes into the 8BA 94 vacuum port is a 3/16" tube compression nut with a 3/8" X 24 thread. These should be available at most places that handle brass fittings. The nut center can be soldered, braised, epoxied etc. then screwed in place to plug the vacuum port. :)

I buy mine at true value hardware, It looks alot like a pilot lite fitting on a hot water heater, they are in a special type of fittings drawer ,Ill' post the number if I pass by a store today. I put J.B weld in the fitting after it sets up I screw the fitting in and it don't harm the carb threads.

The proper name is a threaded sleeve nut, and the common Weatherhead/Eaton part number for the 3/16" size is #6100 X 3.

Sounds like they don't make a plug for this. I'd get the nuts specified above and break out the soldering iron!

The hole in question in the original post is being blocked. A 3/8 24 grub screw will do the job. No need for special fittings, as the hole isn't gonna be used.
Martin.

I think I made a grub screw from the end of a 3/8 bolt, sawn off with a screwdriver slot cut in with a hacksaw. A short 3/8 allen headed grubscrew would be great if easily available. It's just a vac port that is being blocked off. Not something like a high pressure oil tapping that would make a mess if it leaks.

I personally wouldn't retap to a different thread, just in case it was reverted to a stock application in later life.

Mart.

Wow, that's great. All kind of solutions. I ended up using a 3/8-24 threaded portion of a fine series 3/8 SS hex head sawed off and slotted with a hack saw as Mart did in his fabrication. Filed sanded and polished. used yellow Teflon tape to seal. Working great!

2 X 2 setup looks cooler than the 4 barrel did. Used a 4" tunnel ram 4 barrel adapter and a 4 barrel to 2 X 2 adapter set up from Speedway. Really sits high and I think looks great. The bonus is it runs better than the Edelbrock 4 barrel. In fairness to the Edelbrock I think it was jetted too big and was bogging especially when the secondary was kicked in. Will use on my '67 442 and I think it will like it.
My 8BA seems to like the .051 jets on the 94's as it runs and even sounds better. Better growl, LOL
