I'm glad you mentioned that. I installed a newly rebuilt 2 tooth steering column last year and I was filling it up to the bottom of the fill hole. And it leaked from the eccentric hex nut. Now I keep the level high enough to cover the gears. Things now are leak free and it Steers fine hopefully I'm doing the right thing.I had a new 2 tooth steering box installed in my 1930 fordor... Rebuilt from Snyders...
I filled it up to the bottom the the oil fill hole and the box leaked heavily.. Not out the bottom, but thru the ecentric hex nut on the side of the steering box...
After having the box removed from the car again and taken apart, they found nothing wrong, and Snyders then said that the steering box should not be filled to the bottom of the fill hole, but rather only about half full... you should use a flashlight to look down the oil hole to see the how much is in there... My previous steering box never leaked at all, when filled... I am puzzled why this one did leak...
Anyone have any thoughts?
Brother Bob,Fill the steering box with a synthetic grease first, then add a small amount of synthetic hypoid gear oil. The grease will seal the gearbox and sector shaft.
I have a 1930 fordor town sedan with a 2 tooth steering box...
My question is how much 600 wt oil do you put into the steering box?
Do you fill the gear box up to the bottom of the fill hole?
Thanks ahead of time...
