I decided it was time to change the oil in Nellybell. While the oil was draining the stream looked like it had a funny shape. Being the adventurous type I stuck my little finger in the hole. Well if felt something move! Ok, this is not good what's busted now? Got a piece of wire and finely got it into the drain hole. A nut, where did that come from? I tried to grab it with a bent wire, it of course moved just a little. But I kept at it and was finely able to get it back in the hole then grabbed it with the vascular clamps. While the vascular camp held it I took a piece of soft wire and secured it. It took a few tries but was able to work it up the valley in the bottom of the pan to the back. I then took another piece of wire and put a hook on the end and was able to snag the wire with the nut on it and pull it out.
One of the cats must have knocked it in to the pan over the winter, I thought I had just misplaced it or used it on a friend car when I went to reassemble the bands and only found 1 band nut. I know both band washers were there when I put it back together.
Moral of the story, don't leave the transmission cover off too long, you never know what might find it's way to the transmission!
