I have a 2.3 Lima engine with a C3 Automatic transmission that I would like to put in a 29 Roadster body that I also have acquired. Has anyone put this setup in a model A. I want the automatic trans because my legs are getting too tired to clutch. I would like to see some pictures of a completed install. Do I need to remove the center crossmember or will some surgery be adequate. I plan to use an 8 inch Ford 3rd member with an open driveline and the spring mounted directly on top of the differential. I have the spring perches welded on the differential body already. I plan to have this as a full fendered car. Please do not post about how I am ruining a Model A or other chastisement. I have 7 restored Model As and three hot rods. I enjoy both. Thanks for any useful info anyone can provide. Also I am aware of the Hamb, so no need to remind me.

i did a similar thing years ago.
pinto 2.3 with 4bbl, cam and headers
c-4 instead of c-3
early 9 inch (was narrower and lots of gear choices)
the answer to your question is,--- that center cross member is definatly going to be in your way. you can modify it but quite a bit has to get cut out. i cut that cross member out and made a new one that was at the rear of the ****** where the mount is. then separate brackets for brake pedal and master. quite a bit of work. sorry no pics.
it was not a weekend job.

I think you'll find the 54.5" wide Chevy S-10 rear end will be a better fit. It's abour 2.5" narrower than the early 9".

My ‘28 had the German 2.0 with a C4 and an Isuzu rear when I bought it. I can try to find some pics if you need, but it was fabricate motor and trans mount.

Thanks 1 Old timer. pictures would be really helpful if it isn't too much hassle for you. I would appreciate it.
