2/29 Phaeton top measurements

I have a new set of repo top irons and bows. I need to know the width of the irons at the top, so when I get the top fabric it will fit. I can vary the width by inserting the bows more or less.


Any help will be appreciated.

My experience is that the repro top irons are not made right. While the ones I bought are for a 30 phaeton, my research says 28-29 ones are very poor fitting also. Use originals if at all possible.

I suggest you contact the people that are making your fabric top and ask THEM what the width of the top irons needs to be to have a correct fit to their material. They probably have a set of irons there that they build to. They can measure the width of each bow and report back.

I purchased these top irons from LeBaron Bonny. I called them today with questions about the width of the top irons. They were unable to answer my questions.. It seems that a long time employee, Doug retired a couple of years ago. They lost a wealth of knowledge when he left.


I have not been able to find another 28/29 phaeton in my area to look at. I am hoping someone here on Ford Barn will be able to help.

I will be happy to give you any pics and measure what ever you need from the original top on our 28. let me know how to measure

I thought of another question. The bow that goes over the driver head is wider on
one side. Does the wide side go on the top or bottom?
