For many of you this is a pointless post. For use "newbies" taking our cars out for the first time is a HUGE event.
I purchased my car in February of 2013 and backed it off the trailer and drove it into my garage and started working on it. After installing a new header, correct tires, a new roof, new windows, adding seats and springs and upholstering the seats, repairing a leak in the fuel tank, adding a leak-less water-pump and aluminum fan blade, re-lining the brakes and cleaning years of grease and grime from them I was finally to the point where I felt I could comfortably drive my A.
Thanks to a lot of help and guidance from Marshall Daut I took her out for a short drive today. She definitely needs some work on the front end to tighten up the steering and I need to check the spedo cable to see if I did not get in installed properly when I removed the gauges, but all in all it was an exciting short trip around the neighborhood.

Thank you to all who answered my questions and thanks to everyone who posts on the 'barn since I have learned a lot.

I am looking forward to more drives and to bring my family along next time :)

Congrats on getting it on the road.....lots of good times should follow! You are off to a good start, and seem to have a good balance between wanting to/needing to work on the A and driving it. Keep up the steady progress and be sure and post some new pics as you go, and most of all, have fun with that car. The Fordors are very comfortable cars to ride and drive in, plus excellent for families.....hope you continue to enjoy it!!

I remember that first "trial putt" in both of my A's. How I listened and felt for everything right and everything that might be wrong... What a thrill. Just getting them on the road adds the motivation one needs to keep working on them. Congratulations!

(BTW, just recalled. Had to get a tow for the coupe on it's "maiden putt" just three blocks from home. I was frustrated and embarrassed. Turns out I'd just run out of gas. Forgot that one last detail. :) )

So true!:)
That's why I always suggest get the car running and drive it while you restore the small parts, one at a time. That way you can keep driving the car to get a better feel for what it needs in the way of repairs, plus you have fun driving it. Also, the exposure of your car on the road can lead to other cars and parts hidden away.
